14. The First Chapter
1.1“Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, mama sāvakānaṁ bhikkhūnaṁ rattaññūnaṁ yadidaṁ aññāsikoṇḍañño.
"This is the foremost, bhikkhus, among my disciple bhikkhus of long standing — namely, Aññāsikoṇḍañña.
1.1… Mahāpaññānaṁ yadidaṁ sāriputto.
… Of those with great discernment [paññā] — namely, Sāriputta.
1.1… Iddhimantānaṁ yadidaṁ mahāmoggallāno.
… Of those with psychic powers — namely, Mahāmoggallāna.
1.1… Dhutavādānaṁ yadidaṁ mahākassapo.
… Of those who advocate the austere practices — namely, Mahākassapa.
1.1… Dibbacakkhukānaṁ yadidaṁ anuruddho.
… Of those with the divine eye — namely, Anuruddha.
1.1… Uccākulikānaṁ yadidaṁ bhaddiyo kāḷigodhāya putto.
… Of those of noble birth — namely, Bhaddiyo, son of Kāḷigodhā.
1.1… Mañjussarānaṁ yadidaṁ lakuṇḍaka bhaddiyo.
… Of those with a melodious voice — namely, Lakunḍaka Bhaddiyo.
1.1… Sīhanādikānaṁ yadidaṁ piṇḍolabhāradvājo.
… Of those who give the lion's roar — namely, Piṇḍolabhāradvāja.
1.1… Dhammakathikānaṁ yadidaṁ puṇṇo mantāṇiputto.
… Of Dhamma speakers — namely, Puṇṇa Mantāṇiputta.
1.1… saṅkhittena bhāsitassa vitthārena atthaṁ vibhajantānaṁ yadidaṁ mahākaccāno”ti.
… Of those who analyze in detail the meaning of what was spoken in brief — namely, Mahākaccāna."
