1.1“Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, mama sāvakānaṁ bhikkhūnaṁ bahussutānaṁ yadidaṁ ānando.
"This, bhikkhus, is the foremost among my bhikkhu disciples who are learned — namely, Ānanda.
1.1… Satimantānaṁ yadidaṁ ānando.
… Among those with sati — namely, Ānanda.
1.1… Gatimantānaṁ yadidaṁ ānando.
… Among those of great attainment — namely, Ānanda.
1.1… Dhitimantānaṁ yadidaṁ ānando.
… Among those of fortitude — namely, Ānanda.
1.1… Upaṭṭhākānaṁ yadidaṁ ānando.
… Among attendants — namely, Ānanda.
1.1… Mahāparisānaṁ yadidaṁ uruvelakassapo.
… Among those with a great assembly — namely, Uruvelakassapa.
1.1… Kulappasādakānaṁ yadidaṁ kāḷudāyī.
… Among those who inspire confidence in families — namely, Kāḷudāyī.
