0.219. The Sixth Chapter

1.1“Etadaggaṁ, bhikkhave, mama sāvakānaṁ upāsakānaṁ paṭhamaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchantānaṁ yadidaṁ tapussabhallikā vāṇijā.

1.1"This is the foremost, bhikkhus, among my lay disciple followers who went for refuge first — namely, the merchants Tapussa and Bhallika.

1.1… Dāyakānaṁ yadidaṁ sudatto gahapati anāthapiṇḍiko.

1.1… Among givers — namely, the householder Sudatta Anāthapiṇḍika.

1.1… Dhammakathikānaṁ yadidaṁ citto gahapati macchikāsaṇḍiko.

1.1… Among speakers on dhamma — namely, the householder Citta of Macchikāsaṇḍa.

1.1… Catūhi saṅgahavatthūhi parisaṁ saṅgaṇhantānaṁ yadidaṁ hatthako āḷavako.

1.1… Among those who win over an assembly with the four bases of fellowship — namely, Hatthaka of Āḷavī.

1.1… Paṇītadāyakānaṁ yadidaṁ mahānāmo sakko.

1.1… Among givers of excellent things — namely, Mahānāma the Sakyan.

1.1… Manāpadāyakānaṁ yadidaṁ uggo gahapati vesāliko.

1.1… Among givers of pleasing things — namely, the householder Ugga of Vesālī.

1.1… Saṅghupaṭṭhākānaṁ yadidaṁ hatthigāmako uggato gahapati.

1.1… Among those who attend on the Saṅgha — namely, the householder Ugga of Hatthigāma.

1.1… Aveccappasannānaṁ yadidaṁ sūrambaṭṭho.

1.1… Among those with verified confidence — namely, Sūrambaṭṭha.

1.1… Puggalappasannānaṁ yadidaṁ jīvako komārabhacco.

1.1… Among those with confidence in a person — namely, Jīvaka Komārabhacca.

1.1… Vissāsakānaṁ yadidaṁ nakulapitā gahapatī”ti.

1.1… Among those who are intimate — namely, the householder Nakulapitā."
