1.1“Aṭṭhānametaṁ, bhikkhave, anavakāso yaṁ ekissā lokadhātuyā dve rājāno cakkavattī apubbaṁ acarimaṁ uppajjeyyuṁ. Netaṁ ṭhānaṁ vijjati.
"It is impossible, bhikkhus, and there is no opportunity for two wheel-turning kings to arise simultaneously in one world-system. That is not possible.
1.2Ṭhānañca kho etaṁ, bhikkhave, vijjati yaṁ ekissā lokadhātuyā eko rājā cakkavattī uppajjeyya. Ṭhānametaṁ vijjatī”ti.
But it is possible, bhikkhus, for one wheel-turning king to arise in one world-system. That is possible."

"It is impossible, bhikkhus, and there is no opportunity for a woman to be an arahant who is a fully enlightened Buddha. That is not possible.
1.2Ṭhānañca kho, etaṁ, bhikkhave, vijjati yaṁ puriso arahaṁ assa sammāsambuddho. Ṭhānametaṁ vijjatī”ti.
But it is possible, bhikkhus, for a man to be an arahant who is a fully enlightened Buddha. That is possible."

"It is impossible, bhikkhus, and there is no opportunity for a woman to hold the position of Sakka … the position of Māra … the position of Brahmā. That is not possible.
1.2Ṭhānañca kho etaṁ, bhikkhave, vijjati yaṁ puriso sakkattaṁ kāreyya …pe… mārattaṁ kāreyya …pe… brahmattaṁ kāreyya. Ṭhānametaṁ vijjatī”ti.
But it is possible, bhikkhus, for a man to hold the position of Sakka … the position of Māra … the position of Brahmā. That is possible."

"It is impossible, bhikkhus, and there is no opportunity for misconduct in body to produce a result that is wished-for, pleasing, and agreeable. That is not possible.
1.2Ṭhānañca kho etaṁ, bhikkhave, vijjati yaṁ kāyaduccaritassa aniṭṭho akanto amanāpo vipāko nibbatteyya. Ṭhānametaṁ vijjatī”ti.
But it is possible, bhikkhus, for misconduct in body to produce a result that is unwished-for, displeasing, and disagreeable. That is possible."

"It is impossible, bhikkhus, and there is no opportunity for misconduct in speech … misconduct in mind to produce a result that is wished-for, pleasing, and agreeable. That is not possible.
1.2Ṭhānañca kho etaṁ, bhikkhave, vijjati yaṁ manoduccaritassa aniṭṭho akanto amanāpo vipāko nibbatteyya. Ṭhānametaṁ vijjatī”ti.
But it is possible, bhikkhus, for misconduct in mind to produce a result that is unwished-for, displeasing, and disagreeable. That is possible."
