1.2Micchādiṭṭhiyā, bhikkhave, samannāgatā sattā kāyassa bhedā paraṁ maraṇā apāyaṁ duggatiṁ vinipātaṁ nirayaṁ uppajjantī”ti.

Beings endowed with wrong view, bhikkhus, at the breaking up of the body, after death, arise in a lower realm, a bad destination, a place of ruin, in hell."

1.1“Micchādiṭṭhikassa, bhikkhave, purisapuggalassa yañceva kāyakammaṁ yathādiṭṭhi samattaṁ samādinnaṁ yañca vacīkammaṁ …pe… yañca manokammaṁ yathādiṭṭhi samattaṁ samādinnaṁ yā ca cetanā yā ca patthanā yo ca paṇidhi ye ca saṅkhārā sabbe te dhammā aniṭṭhāya akantāya amanāpāya ahitāya dukkhāya saṁvattanti.

"For a person with wrong view, bhikkhus, whatever bodily kamma undertaken and carried out in accordance with that view, whatever verbal kamma … whatever mental kamma undertaken and carried out in accordance with that view — the intentions, the aspirations, the resolves, and the saṅkhāras — all those dhammas lead to what is unwanted, unpleasant, disagreeable, harmful, and to dukkha.

1.2Taṁ kissa hetu?

Why is that?

1.3Diṭṭhi hissa, bhikkhave, pāpikā.

Because, bhikkhus, the view is bad.

1.4Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, nimbabījaṁ vā kosātakibījaṁ vā tittakālābubījaṁ vā allāya pathaviyā nikkhittaṁ yañceva pathavirasaṁ upādiyati yañca āporasaṁ upādiyati sabbaṁ taṁ tittakattāya kaṭukattāya asātattāya saṁvattati.

Just as, bhikkhus, a neem seed, a bitter cucumber seed, or a bitter gourd seed, when planted in moist soil — whatever essence of the earth it draws up and whatever essence of the water it draws up — all of it turns to bitterness, pungency, and disagreeableness.

1.5Taṁ kissa hetu?

Why is that?

1.6Bījañhissa, bhikkhave, pāpakaṁ.

Because, bhikkhus, the seed is bad.

1.7Evamevaṁ kho, bhikkhave, micchādiṭṭhikassa purisapuggalassa yañceva kāyakammaṁ yathādiṭṭhi samattaṁ samādinnaṁ yañca vacīkammaṁ …pe… yañca manokammaṁ yathādiṭṭhi samattaṁ samādinnaṁ yā ca cetanā yā ca patthanā yo ca paṇidhi ye ca saṅkhārā sabbe te dhammā aniṭṭhāya akantāya amanāpāya ahitāya dukkhāya saṁvattanti.

In the same way, bhikkhus, for a person with wrong view, whatever bodily kamma undertaken and carried out in accordance with that view, whatever verbal kamma … whatever mental kamma undertaken and carried out in accordance with that view — the intentions, the aspirations, the resolves, and the saṅkhāras — all those dhammas lead to what is unwanted, unpleasant, disagreeable, harmful, and to dukkha.

1.8Taṁ kissa hetu?

Why is that?

1.9Diṭṭhi hissa, bhikkhave, pāpikā”ti.

Because, bhikkhus, the view is bad."

1.1“Sammādiṭṭhikassa, bhikkhave, purisapuggalassa yañceva kāyakammaṁ yathādiṭṭhi samattaṁ samādinnaṁ yañca vacīkammaṁ …pe… yañca manokammaṁ yathādiṭṭhi samattaṁ samādinnaṁ yā ca cetanā yā ca patthanā yo ca paṇidhi ye ca saṅkhārā sabbe te dhammā iṭṭhāya kantāya manāpāya hitāya sukhāya saṁvattanti.

"For a person with right view, bhikkhus, whatever bodily kamma undertaken and carried out in accordance with that view, whatever verbal kamma … whatever mental kamma undertaken and carried out in accordance with that view — the intentions, the aspirations, the resolves, and the saṅkhāras — all those dhammas lead to what is wanted, pleasant, agreeable, beneficial, and to sukha.

1.2Taṁ kissa hetu?

Why is that?

1.3Diṭṭhi hissa, bhikkhave, bhaddikā.

Because, bhikkhus, the view is good.

1.4Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, ucchubījaṁ vā sālibījaṁ vā muddikābījaṁ vā allāya pathaviyā nikkhittaṁ yañceva pathavirasaṁ upādiyati yañca āporasaṁ upādiyati sabbaṁ taṁ madhurattāya sātattāya asecanakattāya saṁvattati.

Just as, bhikkhus, a sugarcane seed, a rice seed, or a grape seed, when planted in moist soil — whatever essence of the earth it draws up and whatever essence of the water it draws up — all of it turns to sweetness, pleasantness, and natural deliciousness.

1.5Taṁ kissa hetu?

Why is that?

1.6Bījaṁ hissa, bhikkhave, bhaddakaṁ.

Because, bhikkhus, the seed is good.

1.7Evamevaṁ kho, bhikkhave, sammādiṭṭhikassa purisapuggalassa yañceva kāyakammaṁ yathādiṭṭhi samattaṁ samādinnaṁ yañca vacīkammaṁ …pe… yañca manokammaṁ yathādiṭṭhi samattaṁ samādinnaṁ yā ca cetanā yā ca patthanā yo ca paṇidhi ye ca saṅkhārā sabbe te dhammā iṭṭhāya kantāya manāpāya hitāya sukhāya saṁvattanti.

1.8Taṁ kissa hetu?

1.9Diṭṭhi hissa, bhikkhave, bhaddikā”ti.

Because, bhikkhus, the view is good."
