1.1“Ekapuggalo, bhikkhave, loke uppajjamāno uppajjati bahujanaahitāya bahujanaasukhāya, bahuno janassa anatthāya ahitāya dukkhāya devamanussānaṁ.
"One person, bhikkhus, arising in the world, arises for the harm of many, for the unhappiness of many, for the loss, harm, and dukkha of many — of gods and humans.
1.2Katamo ekapuggalo?
Which one person?
1.3Micchādiṭṭhiko hoti viparītadassano.
One who holds wrong view, who sees things in a distorted way.
1.4So bahujanaṁ saddhammā vuṭṭhāpetvā asaddhamme patiṭṭhāpeti.
That person, having led many away from the true dhamma, establishes them in the false dhamma.
1.5Ayaṁ kho, bhikkhave, ekapuggalo loke uppajjamāno uppajjati bahujanaahitāya bahujanaasukhāya, bahuno janassa anatthāya ahitāya dukkhāya devamanussānan”ti.
This, bhikkhus, is the one person who, arising in the world, arises for the harm of many, for the unhappiness of many, for the loss, harm, and dukkha of many — of gods and humans."

1.1“Ekapuggalo, bhikkhave, loke uppajjamāno uppajjati bahujanahitāya bahujanasukhāya, bahuno janassa atthāya hitāya sukhāya devamanussānaṁ.
"One person, bhikkhus, arising in the world, arises for the benefit of many, for the happiness of many, for the welfare, benefit, and sukha of many — of gods and humans.
1.2Katamo ekapuggalo?
Which one person?
1.3Sammādiṭṭhiko hoti aviparītadassano.
One who holds right view, who sees things without distortion.
1.4So bahujanaṁ asaddhammā vuṭṭhāpetvā saddhamme patiṭṭhāpeti.
That person, having led many away from the false dhamma, establishes them in the true dhamma.

"I do not see, bhikkhus, any other single dhamma that is so greatly blameworthy as this — bhikkhus, wrong view.
1.2Micchādiṭṭhiparamāni, bhikkhave, mahāsāvajjānī”ti.
Wrong view is supreme, bhikkhus, among greatly blameworthy things."

1.1“Nāhaṁ, bhikkhave, aññaṁ ekapuggalampi samanupassāmi yo evaṁ bahujanaahitāya paṭipanno bahujanaasukhāya, bahuno janassa anatthāya ahitāya dukkhāya devamanussānaṁ yathayidaṁ, bhikkhave, makkhali moghapuriso.
"I do not see, bhikkhus, any other single person who has conducted himself so much for the harm of many, for the unhappiness of many, for the loss, harm, and dukkha of many — of gods and humans — as this, bhikkhus: Makkhali, that foolish man.
1.2Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, nadīmukhe khippaṁ uḍḍeyya bahūnaṁ macchānaṁ ahitāya dukkhāya anayāya byasanāya;
Just as, bhikkhus, if a fish trap were set at the mouth of a river for the harm, dukkha, ruin, and disaster of many fish;
1.3evamevaṁ kho, bhikkhave, makkhali moghapuriso manussakhippaṁ maññe loke uppanno bahūnaṁ sattānaṁ ahitāya dukkhāya anayāya byasanāyā”ti.
so too, bhikkhus, Makkhali, that foolish man, is like a human fish trap, it seems, arisen in the world for the harm, dukkha, ruin, and disaster of many beings."

"In a poorly taught dhamma and vinaya [dhammavinaye], bhikkhus, whoever encourages another, whoever is encouraged, and whoever practises accordingly — they all generate much demerit.
1.2Taṁ kissa hetu?
What is the reason for this?
1.3Durakkhātattā, bhikkhave, dhammassā”ti.
Because the dhamma is poorly taught, bhikkhus."
