1.1“Dveme, bhikkhave, bālā.

"There are these two fools, bhikkhus.

1.2Katame dve?

Which two?

1.3Yo ca anāgataṁ bhāraṁ vahati, yo ca āgataṁ bhāraṁ na vahati.

One who carries a burden that has not yet arrived, and one who does not carry a burden that has arrived.

1.4Ime kho, bhikkhave, dve bālā”ti.

These, bhikkhus, are the two fools."

1.3Yo ca na kukkuccāyitabbaṁ kukkuccāyati, yo ca kukkuccāyitabbaṁ na kukkuccāyati.

One who feels remorse about what should not be regretted, and one who does not feel remorse about what should be regretted.

1.4Imesaṁ kho, bhikkhave, dvinnaṁ āsavā vaḍḍhantī”ti.

For these two, bhikkhus, the āsavas grow."
